English Language Day is a day to celebrate one of the most widely spoken languages. There are about 360 million people in the world that speak English as their native language, with about three times as many non-native speakers. English borrowed words from around 350 different languages, such as Greek, Latin, and Spanish. English has around one million words, but most people who speak it will only know about 20,000 words by the time they graduate college.

English has been around since the 5th Century, with only three tribes speaking it. There are three main types of English that were spoken throughout history; Old English, Middle English, and Modern English. English is often called a world language, because it is spoken on every continent. It is also one of the languages used by the United Nations, along with Arabic, French, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish.

There are tons of ways to celebrate English Language Day. You can write a story or an essay, read a book, do a crossword puzzle, or anything else that includes English. Below are some items that you cant use to celebrate English Language Day.
