Many people take the fact that they were able to go to school for granted. If they hadn't gone to school, they wouldn't have been able to get in far in life as possible. Many students today take their teachers for granted as well. Some might think that the only reason the teachers are there is because it's their job. That's not the case, however. Many teachers teach simply because they enjoy it. Teacher Appreciation Week is a time for all students and former students to express their appreciation to their teachers.
The history for both Teacher Appreciation Day and Teacher Appreciation Week are unclear. However, it is said that the idea became popular around 1950 when Eleanor Roosevelt attempted to persuade Congress into having a day to recognize teachers and educators. In 1980, Congress declared for Teacher Appreciation Day to become a national holiday. In 1985, Teacher Appreciation Week was established by the Parent Teacher Association, or PTA, and is celebrated every year during the first full week of May.
Teacher Appreciation Week can be very fun to celebrate. Some students like to set up a breakfast for all the teachers. Others like to write notes and cards to give to their teachers telling them how much they love being in their class. Former students may write letters telling their old teachers how much they impacted their life. Below are some items that you can give to your teacher to show them how much you appreciate them.
